The Changing Meaning of Friendship in Today’s World

Today, I experienced something that made me think deeply about the meaning of friendship. Life is full of lessons, and every day teaches us something new. But these days, the meaning of friendship seems to be changing in a strange way.

Many people now measure friendship according to their own comfort. They stay connected as long as it suits them. They rarely try to understand the other person’s pain, struggles, or responsibilities. True friendship should be about standing by each other, especially during difficult times, not just when things are easy.

I have also met people who help others, but later keep reminding them of their favours. Instead of offering support quietly and sincerely, they repeat their good deeds again and again. Some even expect you to agree with everything they say just because they once helped you. This kind of help feels more like pressure than kindness.

When someone announces their help publicly and keeps counting it in front of others, the value of that help slowly disappears. Real friendship does not demand praise or repayment. It is built on understanding, respect, and silent support, not on keeping a record of favours.
